Fresh Salsa made with Essential Oils

One of my favorite Essential Oils is Cilantro. I love Cilantro, to eat, to smell, and even wearing it. It just so happens to be one of the ingredients in PastTense which I use almost EVERY day! So there must be something with Cilantro that just makes things better.

Naturally I want to know more about Cilantro Essential Oil and why it is an Essential Oil that I need in my home. First of all we know that Cilantro the herb is amazing in food. The biggest down side to Cilantro is that it has a very short shelf life. I always make two mistakes when purchasing Cilantro. I buy too much at a time because I LOVE it and then I waste it because I don’t want to use it all up. (I know it is a sickness, you don’t want to know what things I have stored because I like them sooo much!) I have tried dried Cilantro because of the reasons above but alas, it doesn’t have the same powerfulness of fresh Cilantro. So I decided to try the Cilantro Essential Oil.

doTERRA’s Cilantro oil can be used Aromatically, Topically, and Internally. It helps aid in healthy digestion, supports a healthy immune system and a healthy nervous system. It is a very soothing, cooling, and calming oil. It is a cleansing oil, it can be used for surface cleaning or purifying the air (Cilantro is also found in doTERRA’s Purify)

I know that there is much debate over the internal use of Essential Oils. doTERRA Essential Oils are very concentrated so they are extremely powerful. For instance, one drop of doTERRA’s Peppermint Essential Oil has the same strength as 28 cups of Peppermint Tea! So you must use caution and have someone you can trust to help you when using doTERRA’s Essential Oils. There are also great resources out there that help you to safely use your oils. Regardless of how you are using them, they are powerful and one drop goes a long way. And no, not all Essential Oils are the same. Many bands of essential oils are contaminated with chemicals, pesticides, and some aren’t even natural Essential Oils at all. (Remember how I told you in a previous blog about the byproducts of plastic?) With that information alone you should be hesitant to put them in your body, but really you should also be hesitant to put them ON your body too. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and it is attached to EVERY part of you. When you put those toxins on your skin they are getting into every part of your body.

“But my Essential Oil bottle says it is 100% Pure Essential Oil.” Hmmm, that is a good point. However, much like juice in the grocery store, you can’t go by the front of the bottle. You have to look at the small print, the ingredients that are in your oil. Not to mention that there is no regulation for Essential Oils. Who is making sure that your bottle of Essential Oil is telling you the truth? You can find out how your specific bottle of doTERRA Essential Oil tested by the batch number on the bottom of the bottle. You can go to www.sourcetoyou.com and enter that number right in the top right hand corner. It will pull up all of the information about the oil inside of your bottle and how it tested. doTERRA doesn’t just test their oils and call that good enough. They use 3rd party testing to help provide the best Essential Oils available on the market. They also test the Essential Oil at the various stages before it gets bottled and then test the final product to be sure that it is safe for you, me, themselves, and their families to use.

So back to Cilantro Essential Oil, I Love it! Because it is so concentrated you need to gauge your perfect amount in a recipe. I tend to use the whole bunch of Cilantro in my recipes, so I started with a drop. You may want to dip a toothpick in the bottle of oil and then swirl it in your recipe. I use it in all of my Mexican food dishes, and scrambled eggs. Remember I LOVE Cilantro, so start light and add up to the recipe amount.

Here is my favorite personal creation recipe:

Fresh Salsa

1 Bell Pepper

1 Serano Pepper

1 Jalapeno Pepper

1 Onion

2 Garlic Cloves

1/4 Cup Rice Vinegar

3 drops doTERRA Cilantro Oil

3 drops doTERRA Lime Oil

1 drop doTERRA Black Pepper Oil

3 Fresh Tomatoes or 1 can of diced tomatoes of your preference (I like petite unflavored)

Chop the peppers, onion and garlic finely and mix together with remaining ingredients enjoy with tortilla chips. Refrigerate left overs. If you like spicier salsa add more Jalapeños and Seranos but I tend to always get super hot ones.

Now even though I don’t have fresh cilantro on hand I can still whip up a quick batch of salsa anytime as I keep peppers in my freezer. Peppers freeze well, cilantro does not. Enjoy your delicious, easy to make salsa that will be a hit at all your get togethers!
